The Japandi House

○ Location: East London

○ Completion: 2024

This project embodies the Japandi style, featuring natural tones, oak timber furniture, and exquisite fabric choices that convey simplicity. We wanted to create a bright and inviting kitchen with warm textural tones and a direct connection to the garden. In response, we designed a practical L-shaped oriel bench with stunning bespoke fabric made especially for our client in the French workshop of Pierre Frey. This oriel bench creates a quiet corner perfect for relaxation; when the doors are open, it seamlessly connects the interior space to the garden, offering a calm environment for both work and relaxation.

The kitchen is bespoke and crafted by the expert joinery team at Ondine London. Its warm tones, set against the undulating surface of the mixed tiles chosen, create a rich backdrop in which our client can cook and entertain. The muted walls are achieved through the lime paint effect from Bauwerk, expertly applied by the team at Alexander Austin James.

Overall, the effect is one of calm, a sanctuary for our client whose life is full of travel and people, a place to decompress when home.
