Glass House
○ Location: Ireland
○ Completion: 2018
Odine London embraced this project, a derelict terraced Georgian house. We knew we wanted light to permeate every aspect of this family house.
To create a sense of place, of well-being and a space for the family to call home.
The house needed to have a sense of character and depth reinstated through the design process. Ideas began to percolate of how to ensure each corner was considered and attended to.
Two main intimate spaces were created through the use of glass.
Firstly, we designed a large Oriel Window to extend into the garden space, with a wooden bench that ran the length of the window. It created a playful space for the family to sit, a place for the young boy to play and read or do homework within the working kitchen.
Secondly, a large Eaves Roof Light was inserted into the wall and ceiling of the Guest Bedroom, the window overlooks a large deciduous tree in the garden, where small birds nest and sing.
A connection with nature, the home and a sense of place were all considered in the design.
